Abstract

This research was conducted in June 2025 on the Batang Lubuh River, located in Babussalam Village, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province. The slope in this area is in a critical condition, thus requiring reinforcement efforts to ensure public safety and environmental sustainability. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the stability of the existing slope and analyze its effectiveness after reinforcement. The research method used is numerical analysis based on the finite element method, utilizing PLAXIS 2D software. Soil data were obtained from field tests using the Standard Penetration Test (SPT), which were then correlated to determine geotechnical parameters such as cohesion, internal friction angle, unit weight, elastic modulus, and Poisson’s ratio. The slope was modeled under two conditions: without reinforcement and with sheet pile reinforcement, in order to compare safety factor values. The analysis results showed that the safety factor of the slope without reinforcement was 1.098, which is categorized as critical and prone to landslides. After applying HRZ24-700 sheet pile reinforcement, the safety factor increased to 1.310, indicating a stable condition. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the use of sheet pile is an effective technical solution to improve slope stability at the study site. It is recommended that future slope stability analyses be conducted more comprehensively, including variations in reinforcement types and different analytical approaches, to achieve more optimal and accountable design outcomes.
