Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has transformed the way individuals communicate, including interactions through online games. Mobile Legends has become one of the platforms that enable virtual communication among players, including couples who play together. This study aims to analyze the application of CMC theory in virtual communication between Mobile Legends gamer couples. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, using ComputerMediated Communication (CMC) theory as a framework to understand how communication occurs between gaming couples. Informants were selected using a purposive sampling technique, based on specific criteria determined by the researcher. The findings indicate that communication between couples in Mobile Legends is more oriented toward efficient information exchange rather than deep emotional integration. Synchrony through voice chat and quick chat facilitates gameplay coordination, yet the lack of nonverbal cues often leads to misunderstandings. In line with CMC theory, communication in the game is interactive and efficient, but it remains limited in fostering emotional closeness.
