Abstract
Single mothers face various life pressures, including economic demands, child-rearing responsibilities, and emotional and social burdens that must be borne alone without a partner’s presence. These challenges are often exacerbated by societal stigma and limited access to social support. Factors influencing this condition include the loss of a partner, low economic status, lack of social support, individual resilience, and parenting style, all of which challenge single mothers to develop strong resilience in their lives. This study aims to understand the resilience of single mothers using a qualitative research method with a case study approach involving mothers from Gading Sari village. Informants were selected using purposive sampling, with a total of three participants. Data were collected through interviews and observations, and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that the participants faced major challenges in the areas of economic hardship and child-rearing. However, they were able to endure these difficulties through internal strengths such as optimism and religiosity, as well as external support from family and the surrounding community. The informants demonstrated adaptability and psychological resilience in coping with life’s pressures. Levels of resilience varied among the informants, depending on their social support systems and individual personalities.
