Abstract

Marriage is a phase that individuals will face as they enter adulthood. Marriage is an important factor in human life, but many young adults experience difficulties in preparing for marriage and have negative attitudes towards it. The influence of the digital era and cultural changes can affect role expectations in marriage, and mismatches in these role expectations can impact married life. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between social media use and marriage readiness. The population in this study were students in Pekanbaru City with a sample size of 400 people using a probability sampling technique. The measuring instrument used in this study was the Social Networking Sites Usage & Needs Scale (SNSUN) and the marriage readiness scale. The hypothesis was tested using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis method. The results of the analysis showed a significant negative relationship between the variable of social media use and the variable of marriage readiness with a correlation value of -0.115 with a significance of 0.022 (p <0.05), which means that if social media use is high, the level of marriage readiness is low, and vice versa.
