Abstract

This study aims to describe the resocialization experience of former inmates of the class IIB Siak Detention Center after serving their prison sentences. It employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The research subjects consist of former inmates, correctional officers, family members, and community leaders. The findings indicate that resocialization involves two main forms of development: first personality development, which includes religious and moral activities that enhance spiritual awareness of inmates. Second, self-reliance development, in the from of vocational training aimed at equipping them to live independently after release. Family support plays a key role in the success of social reintegration. while societal stigma and the issue of overcrowding are significant obtacles. This study is analyzed using Travis Hirschi’s social bond theory, which emphasizes the importance of social attachment, involvement in positive activities, commitment to life goals, and belief in societal values as deterrents to deviant behavior. The study recommends the enhancement of sustainable development programs and inclusive community involvement to support the reintegration process of former inmates.
