Abstract

The utilization of Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastic waste as a matrix material, combined with oil palm fruit fiber, represents an innovation in the development of environmentally friendly composite blocks. This study aims to investigate the effect of varying compositions of LDPE and oil palm fruit fiber on the compressive strength, wear resistance, and microstructure of the resulting composite blocks. The material compositions used were 90%:10%, 80%:20%, and 70%:30% (LDPE:fiber). The manufacturing process involved plastic melting, fiber mixing, molding, and cooling. The compressive strength test was conducted according to the SNI 03-0691-1996 standard, the wear test used the Ogoshi method, and microstructural analysis was carried out using FE-SEM.The test results showed that the block with a composition of 70% LDPE and 30% oil palm fruit fiber had the highest compressive strength, reaching 14.56 MPa. In addition, the lowest specific wear value was also obtained at the same composition. Microstructural observations revealed a more uniform fiber distribution and strong interfacial bonding between the fiber and the matrix. Based on these results, the 70:30 composition can be recommended as the optimal formulation for producing composite blocks made from plastic waste and organic fiber.
