Abstract
Improving combustion efficiency in recovery boilers is the main focus in the pulp and paper industry, especially in the treatment of black liquor liquid waste. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in dumper opening in primary and secondary air fans on the quality of black liquor combustion in PT. Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Tbk. The research method used is quantitative with an experimental approach in the field. Data was obtained through direct observation of parameters such as airflow discharge, dumper opening angle, air pressure, fan efficiency, and volume of black liquor sprayed into the furnace. In addition, the quality of the smelting and the shape of the charbed from combustion were also observed to assess the effectiveness of the process. The results showed that the opening of the dumper significantly affected the flow of air entering the combustion chamber. The larger the opening of the dumper, the higher the air capacity supplied, but it needs to be adjusted to the needs so as not to cause pressure imbalance. Maximum efficiency occurs when the discharge flow and air pressure are in a stable condition and are clean from impurities buildup. Irregular airflow due to dirt in the wind box and blockage in the spray gun negatively affects the quality of combustion. Therefore, periodic maintenance is key to maintaining system efficiency. In conclusion, the adjustment of the dumper opening angle on the primary and secondary air fan has an important role in supporting the efficient and stable black liquor combustion process, and can improve the performance of boiler recovery in the pulp and paper industry
