Abstract
A portable machines oil palm frond chopper is a device developed to cut fallen oil palm fronds, thereby preventing the accumulation of organic waste in plantations. Whole palm fronds require a long time to decompose due to the thickness of their leaves and branches. Through the use of this machine, oil palm fronds can be shredded into smaller pieces, accelerating the decomposition process and enabling their use as fertilizer. Shredding results of the study showed that the highest chopping efficiency was achieved in the test using three shredding blades with a spacing of 10 mm at a machine speed of 3000 rpm. From an initial frond weight of 1000 grams, the efficiency obtained was 93%, resulting in a final chopped weight of 930 grams. The best chopping quality was also achieved using three blades with a 10 mm spacing, producing small chopped pieces under 2 cm in size, weighing 770 grams.
