Abstract

One of the main problems faced by oil and gas companies is the increase in water production, this has an impact on increasing maintenance costs and decreasing profits due to decreasing oil production. The main problem in Field X is excessive water production, which is caused by the condition of old wells which results in increased water migration to the production zone, to overcome the increase in water production in Field X, work over is carried out, namely by water shut off (WSO). The WSO method chosen is the mechanical completion method with special equipment, namely AS-1 Packer and CIBP, by lowering the equipment until it reaches the isolated zone, then mechanically setting it using the pulling or rotating method, which will activate the sealing element to close the water zone. A comparison of well performance will be carried out before and after the mechanical water shut off work is carried out using the Inflow Performance Relationship (IPR) and a comparative plot of production data on oil wells using AS-1 Packer and CIBP in Field X, so as to determine the success or failure of the water shut off work. From these results, the effectiveness of the success or cause of failure of the water shut off work is analyzed. Evaluation was conducted on 10 wells, 6 wells were successful, namely Wells AD#001, AD#003, AD#006, AD#007, AD#014A, and AD#020, and 4 wells failed, namely Wells AD#010 and AD#015 due to water coning, Well AD#014 due to packer leakage, and Well AD#025 due to the set depth of the packer being below the WOC zone.
