Abstract
Drilling mud is one of the main components that determine the smoothness and success of a drilling operation. The mud system used in a drilling operation must be in accordance with the formation conditions and lithology that must be penetrated. The composition and physical properties of the mud greatly affect a drilling operation, because one of the factors that determines the success or failure of a drilling is the drilling mud used. The purpose of this study was to analyze the results obtained from the Driller method and the Wait & Weight method used in handling kick masks in HE wells and HSE fields. In this study, the Driller Method and the Wait & Weight Method only involved one circulation. The inflow is turned off, and the killer mud is pumped in one circulation. When sucking the killer mud from the surface to the drill bit, the drill pipe pressure schedule must be calculated and followed. The drill pipe pressure is kept constant afterward until the killer mud is seen back on the surface. The Driller method requires two circulation processes, where the first circulation aims to remove the kick fluid using the old mud and the second circulation stage aims to kill the kick using the killer mud (mud kick). It was found that both methods can overcome influx (kick) where the ratio of the two methods' handling time is 2 times.
