Abstract

Water is one of the basic necessities that are inseparable from the lives of living beings on earth. Water has many uses, such as for drinking, sanitation, industry, and other needs such as irrigation, fisheries, and power generation. The occurrence of global warming, which leads to climate change, has an impact on the availability of water on earth. A tangible impact of global warming is an increase in the intensity of drought in various regions. The purpose of this study is to analyze the drought index and the distribution of drought occurring in the Siak watershed. The method used in this study to analyze drought is the Theory Run method. This method aims to calculate drought indices, including the maximum drought intensity and the longest drought duration at rainfall stations distributed across a region. The rainfall data used for the analysis is monthly rainfall data for 11 years (2013-2023) from three rainfall stations. After analyzing drought using the Theory Run method, a drought distribution map was created using the IDW tool in ArcGIS 10.7 software. The results of the study show that the drought index obtained with the highest cumulative drought occurred in 2016 with a deficit value of -2899 mm at the Buatan station. The longest drought duration was 32 months, which occurred in 2016. This drought was a continuation of the drought that began in January 2014 and lasted until June 2016 at the Buatan station. Based on the results of drought distribution mapping using the IDW method in ArcGIS software, the subdistricts that experienced the most severe drought distribution were Koto Gasib, Lubuk Dalam, and Tualang.
