Abstract

The study aimed to determine the factors influencing the community’s decision in Pinang Sebatang Timur not to become Sharia Bank customers. This was a quantitative study through principal factor analysis. The population of the study was the community in Pinang Sebatang Timur, with a sample size of 99 respondents. The sample of the study was taken by using simple random sampling technique. The results of the study indicated that brand image, product knowledge, and profit-sharing benefits influenced the community’s decision in Pinang Sebatang Timur Village not to use Sharia banking products. However, location, superior loyalty, and service experience did not influence the community’s decision in Pinang Sebatang Timur Village not to use Sharia banking products. Simultaneously, the brand image, product knowledge, profit-sharing benefits, location, superior loyalty, and service experience influenced the decision of community not to use Sharia banking products. The suggestions of the study for Sharia banks were to improve the service experience for each transaction by ensuring a timely manner, offer attractive sales promotions to attract customers, increase public awareness about the negative impacts of usury (riba), and not charge fees for each transaction at ATMs or online banking. The suggestions for the next researchers were to analyze the factors resulting from this study and other variables that influence the community’s decision in Pinang Sebatang Timur Village not to become Sharia banking customers.
