Abstract

This study analyzes the framing of news coverage regarding the involvement of the United States in the China-Taiwan conflict as presented by CNN Indonesia and Republika.co.id. Using Robert N. Entman's framing analysis model, the research aims to identify differences in how the two media outlets frame the issue. The findings reveal that CNN Indonesia tends to represent the U.S. perspective by highlighting America's actions in supporting Taiwan, portraying U.S. intervention as a strategic move to maintain regional stability. On the other hand, Republika.co.id aligns more with China's viewpoint, emphasizing the importance of the "One China" principle and depicting U.S. support for Taiwan as a threat to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. These differences are evident across all framing elements, including problem definition (Define Problems), cause identification (Diagnose Causes), moral judgment (Make Moral Judgement), and suggested solutions (Treatment Recommendations). This research provides insight into how media can shape public perception of international issues through selective emphasis and framing of information.
