Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the significant increase in the use of image media on students' ability to write descriptive texts in the tenth grade of SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Pekanbaru. In this study, the researcher used quantitative research. The sample was taken from 10th grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Pekanbaru, with a total of 260 students. The researcher chose 2 classes, an experimental class with 30 students and a control class of 30 students. The experimental group will be given treatment with images. The researcher applied image media to the experimental class. The research instrument was two tests in the form of essays. During the data collection stage, three phases must be completed: pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Based on the results of the hypothesis testing in this study, students' writing scores after using image media were higher than their writing scores before being taught using image media. Based on the hypothesis result using SPSS 26, the result show that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It is found that t score > t table (2.097 > 1.305). As the result, the research question’s answer was proven: the use of picture is effective on students’ writing ability in descriptive text of tenth grade students’ at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Pekanbaru.
