Abstract
Reading comprehension is understanding the text with the intention of understanding the text to find out the meaning of the story. Descriptive text is text that describes an object, whether a living creature, object, place or event in detail. This research aims to analyze students' reading comprehension of descriptive texts by giving students descriptive text reading comprehension tests. The type of the test was multiple choices at SMK Perpajakan Riau. This research was quantitative descriptive, the sample of this research consisted of 20 students of X MP A. In collecting the data used 20 tests it was multiple choice questions from 4 descriptive texts to identify and analyzed the students' reading comprehension of descriptive text. The results showed that the students' understanding in reading descriptive text got a good average score (79.0) which means good, it can be concluded that almost most of the students did what was given by the researcher and the students did not have much difficulty in answering the comprehension test. reading descriptive text, students' understanding in reading descriptive text is at a good level. Then in indicator identification, students get a score with an average value (85.0) with a percentage (45%), which means that almost a half of students can find orientation based on reading comprehension in the good category. Furthermore, in the description indicator, students get a score with an average value (90.0) with a percentage (55%), which means that a half of students can find complications based on reading comprehension in the good category. Based on the results of this study, the researcher found that 45% of students understood the identification in descriptive texts, while in the description indicator students got percentage 55%. Woolley (2011) says that reading comprehension is the process of creating meaning from the text. The goal of reading comprehension is to gain an overall understanding of what is described in the text rather than to obtain meaning from isolated words or sentences.
