Abstract
Parenting is one of the ways parents raise and educate their children, so that children grow and develop into children who are in accordance with the values that exist in the family and in society. However, it still provides a balance between giving children freedom, while ensuring that children remain within safe limits and in accordance with their age development stage. This study aims to describe parenting styles, particularly among the Batak ethnic group, and the ways in which these styles shape children's character. The method used in this study was a qualitative descriptive study with three female subjects, Batak parents, residing in South Marbau Village. The results indicate that the parenting styles applied by the three subjects are a combination of assertiveness, high demands, and attention and affection aimed at developing children's character holistically. Parental Responsiveness and Parental Demanding were identified as key aspects of their parenting styles. The subjects stated that this focus is not solely on academic achievement or obedience in children, but also on the formation of moral, spiritual, and social values in accordance with Batak cultural heritage. This study is expected to serve as additional reference material for future researchers, particularly in the field of developmental psychology, focusing on the role of Batak parenting styles in shaping children's character.
