Abstract
his research aims to explore the construction of the identity of barista students, focusing on how identity is formed through social interaction, especially in the context of digital media such as Instagram. In an increasingly digitally connected society, identity formation is no longer static, but rather a dynamic process influenced by social, symbolic, and digital experiences. This research uses a qualitative approach with an interpretative perspective and bases its analysis on George Herbert Mead's theory of symbolic interactionism, which views identity as the result of a continuous process of social interaction. The results show that the identity of barista students is not only rooted in their work as coffee waitresses, but is a more complex and meaningful expression of self. The choice to become a barista is interpreted as a form of identity search, actualization, and a symbol of certain social status. Social interaction that occurs, both directly and through social media, is the main arena for the formation of symbolic meanings that strengthen self-identity.
