Abstract

his study was conducted to determine the relationship between the use of social media with loneliness in Riau Islamic University students. The population in this study were all students of Riau Islamic University with 395 subjects selected using the cluster sampling method. Data collection in this study used two scales, namely the social media usage scale and the loneliness scale. The results of this study used Spearman Rho correlation analysis. Based on Product moment analysis, the correlation coefficient value is 0.228 with a significant value of 0.000 (p <0.05) So it can be concluded that there is a significant positive correlation between the use of social media and loneliness in students at Riau Islamic University. The higher the use of social media, the higher the level of loneliness in students and vice versa, the lower the use of social media, the lower the level of student loneliness.
