Abstract
This study aims to explore the Depression Profile in Emerging Adults Experiencing Unemployment. Depression is a mood disorder characterized by persistent sadness, loss of interest in activities, and negative thoughts about oneself, the world, and the future. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method, with participants selected through purposive sampling. The study involved three unemployed individuals aged 28–34 years—one female and two males—who had been unemployed for 3–5 years. The findings revealed that all three participants experienced symptoms of depression across emotional, cognitive, motivational, and vegetative aspects. Emotionally, they showed signs of prolonged sadness, frequent crying, and feelings of worthlessness. Cognitively, they expressed negative thoughts, low self-esteem, and rumination over past failures. In terms of motivation, the participants demonstrated a decline in enthusiasm for daily activities and jobseeking efforts. Disturbances in vegetative functions, such as insomnia and reduced appetite, were also present. These findings support the biopsychosocial model in understanding depression, where psychological, biological, and social factors interact to shape psychopathological conditions in unemployed emerging adults.
