Abstract
Teachers in Special Needs Schools (SLB) face significant challenges in educating children with special needs (ABK), including emotional pressure, limited resources, and high professional demands. These factors can affect their psychological wellbeing. This study aims to describe the psychological well-being of special education teachers at SLB X in Pekanbaru. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with purposive sampling. Three SLB teachers with a minimum of six months’ experience were selected as participants. The unit of analysis was the individual teacher. Data were collected through natural-participant observation and semi-structured interviews, and analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model. Data validity was ensured through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. The findings indicate that all participants demonstrated a generally positive level of psychological well-being. Purpose in life and positive relations with others were the most prominent aspects, followed by strong indications of autonomy, environmental mastery, and personal growth. Even teachers without formal educational backgrounds adapted well through self-directed learning and experience. This study recommends ongoing training and institutional support to help SLB teachers stay motivated and maintain their psychological well-being.
