Abstract

The withdrawal of children's syrup medicines from distribution due to contamination with hazardous substances such as Ethylene Glycol (EG) and Diethylene Glycol (DEG) requires an active role from the BPOM, including at the regional level. This study aims to analyze the efforts of the Pekanbaru City POM and Pharmacy Agency (BPOM) in combating the circulation of banned children's syrup. The method used was descriptive qualitative, using interviews with POM and pharmacies, and the public. The results show that the Pekanbaru POM and Pharmacy Agency (BPOM) have taken steps such as distributing circulars, conducting field inspections, providing business development, conducting routine supervision, and coordinating with distributors and other POMs in other regions. Pharmacies in Pekanbaru are generally compliant and promptly withdraw products from circulation. However, direct education is still lacking in the community, as information is primarily obtained from the media. Analysis based on crime prevention strategy theory shows that the Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has implemented primary and secondary prevention effectively. Tertiary strategies, particularly public education, still need improvement. Improved outreach, public reporting systems, and cross-sector collaboration are needed to optimize drug oversight in Pekanbaru.
