Abstract
As the number of internet users is projected to reach 5.35 billion by 2024, encompassing 66% of the global population, robust telecommunications infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. Despite the presence of security teams at these towers, theft incidents still occur frequently. Using qualitative methods, this study examines the implementation of prevention strategies carried out by the managed service PT Persada Sokka Tama Sumbagteng Region, as the person in charge of surveillance and security, to protect cellular towers from theft, utilizing the framework of routine activity theory. The results of the study revealed that current prevention measures are largely ineffective, as the security protocols implemented by the tower security team—who serve as the primary guardians—mainly focus on the physical security of the towers. These measures, which include the installation of CCTV and alarm systems, primarily address the security of targets, specifically points of inertia and access. The results of the study found that prevention efforts by PT Persada Sokka Tama Sumbagteng Region have not optimized the involvement of local communities in tower security. This study highlights the need for a re-evaluation of existing security strategies to improve the protection of critical telecommunications assets.
