Abstract

Radio, as a broadcasting industry, requires expertise and must be creative to retain old listeners and attract new ones. Radio Bharabas 97.5 FM Pekanbaru has a focus on news or journalism. In 2000, there was an incident that made Radio Bharabas well-known for its news coverage, namely the Christmas Eve bombing that occurred on December 24, 2000. The research method used in this study is qualitative with a descriptive approach, utilizing a gatekeeping theory by Jullian Wallace, which consists of three stages of gatekeeper work: Access to Information (Input – Stage), Selection Based on Criteria (Throughput – Stage), and Publication Choice (Output – Stage). Based on the research findings, the journalistic team from Radio Bharabas 97.5 FM Pekanbaru has already implemented this theory, which has allowed Radio Bharabas to maintain its news reporting.
