Abstract

Utilization of information technology in tertiary institutions is one way to improve quality and effectiveness in meeting academic and administrative needs. At the Faculty of Engineering, Riau Islamic University, lecturer attendance still uses a manual system that requires physical presence in one particular location or room. This certainly raises problems considering the mobility of lecturers and work units that move around so that it can hinder lecturers from taking attendance on time. So we need an attendance system that is flexible and able to record the presence of lecturers in real-time. By using geofencing technology that can capture the coordinates of the location of the lecturer's device when he wants to make attendance, detects the entry and exit of the device when it crosses the predetermined virtual boundary and will provide notifications. Lecturers can only take attendance at a predetermined virtual limit.
