Abstract

Traditional markets and modern markets have different characteristics and certain similarities so that it becomes a separate assessment for consumers of each market. Market competition occurs in attracting visitors to shop at traditional markets and modern markets. This study aims to examine the attractiveness of traditional markets and modern markets based on the preferences of population in Mandau District. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method to identify the characteristics of traditional and modern markets using a qualitative descriptive analysis technique and then analyzes the comparison of the attractiveness of traditional markets and modern markets based on the preferences of residents in Mandau District with a scoring analysis technique using the Likert scale model. The results of this study are: 1) Modern markets have advantages in terms of physical conditions so as to provide comfort, safety and cleanliness for consument compared to traditional markets. 2) The attractiveness of traditional markets is product price and product quality, while the attractiveness of modern markets is the physical condition of the market, product quality, and product variety.
