Abstract
Pekanbaru City's population growth continues to increase which causes an increase in people's consumptive patterns. From this phenomenon, the existence of an informal market or ""pasar kaget" is rife. The existence of informal markets has advantages and disadvantages in terms of various characteristics. In an effort to increase the informal market in creating an ideal area, according to standards, it is necessary to understand more deeply the real conditions that exist in the field in order to be able to deal with existing problems effectively in terms of their characteristics. This study aims to identify the characteristics of the informal market in Pekanbaru City. This study uses deductive quantitative and qualitative methods focusing on examining the characteristics of the informal market which is supported by distribution patterns and informal market policies in Pekanbaru City with a total population of 46 informal markets and the entire population is used as a sample (Saturation Sampling). The analysis techniques in this study are spatial analysis, Nearest Neighbor Analysis, descriptive analysis, service coverage analysis, and open interviews with related agencies. The results obtained from this study are: 1) Identified 46 points spread across 10 sub-districts in Pekanbaru City. 2) Identified that the distribution pattern of the informal market in Pekanbaru City is a random pattern. 3) There is no specific policy related to planning, utilization and management of informal markets in Pekanbaru City. 4) Identification of 15 characteristics of the informal market, namely the type of weekly market, operating time from day to night, market layout is organized, low rental prices, private vehicle transportation, short distances, medium turnover, small number of traders, residential land use, larger market area smaller than the informal market, collector street class, mixed types of goods, merchandise prices are the same as formal markets, non-permanent building forms, and on street parking.
