Abstract

The construction of a road section is closely related to geometry, so that the road sections that are built can meet the criteria for safe roads that provide safety and comfort for road users who pass through these road sections. The main objective of this study is to examine the effect of road geometrics on the safety and comfort of road users with reference to the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works No. 11/PRT/M/2010, Minister of Public Works Regulation No. 19/PRT/M/2011, Government Regulation No. 34 of 2006 and article 22 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia no. 22 of 2009. The method used in this study is to use quantitative methods by collecting primary data and secondary data and studying literature. The quantitative method in this study is to process data by calculating the data that has been collected and making comparisons between the existing data and the calculation of the results of the analysis so that it can become a basic reference for road safety performance. Based on the results of the research that has been done, there are several criteria for safe roads, especially on the road geometry on the Sp. Jam – Sei Harapan Batam sta 02+850 – 03+838 does not meet the standards in accordance with Highways regulations so that this road section cannot be categorized as a safe road in terms of road geometry. This research shows that the geometric condition of the existing road on the Sp. Hours – Sei Harapan Batam sta 02+850 – 03+838 not in accordance with the geometric plan of the road according to Highways regulations. This is due to the difference between the existing horizontal alignment and the planned horizontal alignment, where there are different bend radii and lengths. Another difference can also be seen in the comparison between the existing vertical alignment and the planned vertical alignment. The results of the study prove that the road section does not meet a safe visibility for motorists, especially in the uphill and downhill areas. This research also proves that the superelevation on the road section exceeds the permissible superelevation, namely the maximum e value of 8%. Based on the results of the study, the factors that cause accidents on the Sp. Hours – Sei Harapan Batam sta 02+850 – 03+838 due to differences in horizontal alignment, vertical alignment and super-elevation of the existing road with plans based on Bina Marga.
