Abstract
Silica pellets are a type of composite ceramic product made from silica particles bonded with a binder or matrix and then compressed using a cold press. However, the use of silica pellets still needs further development to find a suitable material at a low price, both in terms of materials and how to make it, without reducing the performance of silica pellets. One of them is eggshell, because it has a chemical compound of calcium carbonate which can react on silica to form CaSiO3 as a composite ceramic reinforcement material. This study aims to make composite pellets using silica and eggshell powder as reinforcement and bound by polyethylene glycol (PEG). In this study, the composition of silica, eggshell powder and polyethylene glycol (PEG) with different values ??of 70% : 20% : 10%, 60% : 30% : 10% and 50% : 40% : 10%, the compaction process with a pressure of 5 Tons for 1 hour. The highest compressive strength test results were in sample 3 because 40% of eggshell powder contains a calcium carbonate compound which can react on silica to form CaSiO3 so that it can strengthen the compressive strength value. While the highest value of porosity in sample 1 due to the addition of eggshell powder looks very good in sample 1 of 20% because it makes it easier to apply as a proppant according to the effective porosity standard of 5% -30%.
