Abstract
Autism is a condition related to complex neural development, and is characterized by difficulties in social interaction with others, communication, and having limited, repetitive and stereotyped behavior. Developmental disorders in children with autism appear in childhood and can have an impact on their lives, this is caused by limitations in social interaction and responding appropriately, lack of eye contact, and difficulty in conveying information. Children with special needs with autism disorders need special handling both in the school environment and outside the school environment, in addition to Law No. 20 of 2003 Chapter VI Paragraph 1 special education is intended for students who have a level of difficulty in following the learning process due to physical, emotional, mental, and social disorders. This study aims to determine the instructional communication of teachers in improving the social interaction skills of autistic children at the Kundur State Special Elementary School (SDLB). This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach by trying to analyze further related to the object of research. The study results show that instructional communication conducted by teachers with autistic children at the Kundur State Special Elementary School (SDLB) utilizes learning strategies tailored to the children's emotional states and abilities. This strategy aims to improve the understanding and social interaction skills of autistic children. Teachers provide repeated instructions patiently and are sensitive to feedback such as eye contact, facial expressions, or other physical responses. However, the implementation of this instructional communication still faces obstacles such as limited facilities, a lack of teaching staff, suboptimal collaboration with parents, and behavioral challenges such as tantrums and refusal to respond to directions.
