Abstract

Interpersonal communication between parents and children plays a crucial role in shaping children's emotional development, especially for those experiencing Inner Child wounds. This study aims to understand the patterns of interpersonal communication within families and its impact on children's emotional well-being. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, utilizing in-depth interviews with parents, children, and psychologists, as well as observations of family interactions. The findings indicate that family communication tends to be one-way and lacks openness. Parents are more likely to give instructions or reprimands rather than fostering dialogue that encourages children's openness. Children who feel they lack space to express themselves tend to withdraw and hesitate to communicate due to fear of judgment or feeling unheard. The lack of empathy and emotional support in communication also affects children's ability to recognize and manage their emotions, influencing their self-confidence and social skills. To foster healthier communication, this study highlights the importance of openness, empathy, and emotional support from parents to children. With more open and supportive communication, the relationship between parents and children is expected to become more harmonious, helping to mitigate the effects of Inner Child wounds that may impact children's lives into adulthood.
