Abstract

This study aims to determine the forms of self-disclosure and privacy management through the use of a second Instagram account through the Instagram Stories feature by Generation Z women in Pekanbaru City. This study uses the concept of Self-Disclosure by Sidney Jourard and Communication Privacy Management (CPM) by Sandra Petronio. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants in this study consisted of five female informants who actively use second accounts. The results of this study indicate that the forms of self-disclosure carried out by users include various personal matters, such as past experiences, feelings towards others, opinions on social situations, and expressions of one's own feelings. This information is shared honestly and according to emotional needs, which provides a more comfortable and safe space for users to express themselves. This encourages users to manage privacy boundaries on second accounts, such as through selecting followers based on placement, using the close friends feature, and establishing personal rules for sharing certain information. Although second accounts are seen as a more private space, users still feel tension between the desire to share and the need to maintain privacy.
