Abstract

The rapid development of social media in the current digital era has prompted government agencies to utilize digital platforms as a medium for publication and communication with the public. This phenomenon is evident in the use of the official Instagram account @dprd.riau by the Public Relations Office of the Riau Provincial DPRD Secretariat to convey information about legislative activities to the public. This study aims to determine the role of public relations in publicizing the activities of the Riau Provincial DPRD through Instagram social media. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with primary sources including the Head of the Public Relations Sub-Coordinator of the DPRD, the Instagram administrator, and three informants from the general public who use social media. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed qualitatively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the Public Relations Office of the Riau Provincial DPRD plays a strategic role as a communication technician in regularly publicizing legislative activities through Instagram. The publication process is carried out systematically, starting from documenting activities, content preparation by the release team, to uploading by the admin. Publication through Instagram is considered effective in conveying information to the public because it is fast, easily accessible, and interactive. However, challenges still exist in the form of content that tends to be formal and visually unappealing. In conclusion, the Public Relations Office of the Riau Provincial DPRD plays a crucial role in building public trust through transparent and informative publication of council activities on Instagram.
