Abstract

The study "Korean Wave Phenomenon on Gen Z Fashion Style Among Islamic University of Riau" is to find out in depth the Korean Wave phenomenon among female students of Islamic University in Pekanbaru, especially in the generation Z range. This study focuses on the reasons (causes) and objectives of Gen Z female students of Islamic University in Pekanbaru in making Korean Wave a benchmark or inspiration in their clothing style (fashion style). This phenomenon is interesting to study because it shows the entry of foreign culture which is quite significant towards fashion preferences among female students who come from institutions based on Islamic values. The research method used in this study is a qualitative phenomenological research method. The subjects in this study were 2 female students who were obtained through purposive sampling techniques, namely the deliberate selection of informants based on certain criteria that are relevant to the research topic. Data collection techniques are carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation to obtain a complete picture. The data validity technique uses method triangulation, which compares the results of various data collection techniques. The theory used in this study is Alfred Schutz's phenomenological theory. Alfred Schutz groups phenomenology into 2 (two), namely in order to motive and because to motive. In order to motive, namely the purpose of informants to make Korean wave a reference for dressing, namely for pleasure and as a self-identity. While because of motive, namely the reason or cause of informants liking Korean wave fashion, content that often appears on their FYP pages.
