Abstract

Adolescents from single-parent families often face various emotional pressures that can affect their ability to regulate emotions adaptively. Mindfulness, defined as the ability to be consciously present in the moment without judgment, is believed to enhance emotional regulation. This study aims to examine the influence of mindfulness on emotion regulation among adolescents from single-parent families. This research employed a quantitative approach with a sample of 100 adolescents aged 13–17 years, raised by single parents in the city of Pekanbaru, selected through a snowball sampling technique. The instruments used were a mindfulness scale based on the theory of Ruth A. Baer (2006) and an emotion regulation scale based on the theory of Gross and John (2003). Data analysis using simple linear regression showed that mindfulness significantly influenced emotion regulation (R² = 0.420; p < 0.05), indicating that 42% of the variance in mindfulness is explained by emotion regulation. These findings suggest that the higher the level of mindfulness an adolescent possesses, the better their ability to regulate emotions.
