Abstract

The background of this study arises from the high work pressures experienced by Casual Daily Workers (THL) in both the Front Office (FO) and Back Office (BO), which have the potential to induce occupational stress. This research aims to determine the effect of workload on work-related stress among THL at the Population and Civil Registration Office of Pekanbaru City. A quantitative approach was employed, using a survey method administered to 102 respondents, representing the entire THL population at the institution. Data were collected via a validated and reliable workload scale and a work-stress scale. Simple linear regression analysis revealed a significant negative effect of workload on workrelated stress (significance = 0.000, p < 0.05; regression coefficient = –0.387). This indicates that as perceived workload increases, stress levels tend to decrease. These findings suggest that an increased workload may be construed as a positive challenge by THL when supported by strong motivation and favorable work perceptions. The study concludes that workload is not the sole trigger of workrelated stress, and that other variables—such as work environment, social support, and leadership—also warrant attention.
