Abstract
This study aims to analyze the role of fathers in the lives of adolescents in Pekanbaru City. Adolescence is a complex developmental stage characterized by identity exploration and an increased need for role models and emotional support. In this context, the father's role is highly significant—not only as a provider but also as an educator, protector, and role model within the family. Fathers who are actively involved can contribute to the development of strong character and provide emotional security for adolescents. This research employed a quantitative method involving 206 high school students from SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru. The sampling technique used was Proportional Random Sampling. The instrument used was a questionnaire consisting of 45 items covering six dimensions of the father’s role: as a leader, economic provider, protector, educator, playmate, and friend. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a one-way ANOVA to examine differences in the father's role based on demographic factors. The results showed that the father's role was categorized as moderate (35.9%). When viewed from the gender of the respondents, a significant difference was found (p = 0.028 < 0.05) between male and female students in their perception of their father’s role. However, no significant differences were found based on grade level, age, father's education level, occupation, income, or living arrangement. These findings indicate that father involvement in adolescents’ lives still needs to be improved, particularly in emotional engagement and communication. This study provides insight into the importance of a father's presence and active participation in supporting adolescent development, especially in character formation based on Islamic values.
