Abstract

This study examines the influence of adverse childhood experiences (ACE) on social anxiety among early adults aged 18–25 years, with self-compassion as a mediating variable. Adverse childhood experiences, which encompass negative childhood events, can reduce self-compassion and increase the risk of social anxiety. A quantitative method was employed with 384 early adult respondents in Pekanbaru using random sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using SmartPLS to assess the quality of the measurement tools and to ensure the validity and reliability of the research indicators. Based on the data analysis, the results indicate an indirect effect of adverse childhood experiences on social anxiety through self-compassion among early adults in Pekanbaru. Individuals with high levels of self-compassion tend to experience lower levels of adverse childhood experiences and social anxiety, whereas those with higher levels of adverse childhood experiences and social anxiety tend to have lower selfcompassion.
