Abstract
Out-of-town students are required to adapt to a new environment. One of the common problems they experience is loneliness, an emotional condition in which individuals feel isolated or lack meaningful social relationships. Loneliness can drive individuals to seek an escape, one of which is through social media use. However, excessive use may pose a risk of addiction. This study aims to examine the relationship between loneliness and social media addiction among out-of-town students. The sample in this study consisted of 99 participants. The sampling technique used was probability sampling with a simple random sampling method. Data were collected using the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Loneliness Scale Version 3. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between loneliness and social media addiction among out-of-town students, indicated by r = 0.789 and p = 0.00 (p < 0.05).
