Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between body image and self confidence among Instagram users, particulary adolescents and young adults. The background of this research is rooted in the increasing use of visual-based social media platforms, which facilitate social comparison and the internalization of ideL body standars-factors that may influence self-perception and self-confidence. This study employed a quantitative approach with purposive sampling, involving 180 respondents who are active Instagram users residing in Riau Province. The instruments used were a body image scale and a self-confidence scale developed by the researcher based on relevant theoretical frameworks. Validity and reliability tests were conducted for both instruments. Data analysis using Pearson's correlation test revealed a significant negative relationship between body image and self-confidence (r = -0.373, p < 0.05), indicating that the more positive an individual's body image is, the lower their self-confidence, and vice versa. These findings suggest that frequent exposure to idealized content on Instagram can shape unrealistic body perceptions, ultimately impacting users' self-confidence. This study is expected to serve as a foundation for preventive efforts and psychological interventions aimed at enhancing media literacy and promoting a healthy body image among social media users.
