Abstract
Academic grit is a crucial aspect of student success, particularly in the final stages of higher education. Final-year students writing their theses often face various obstacles, both academic and psychological, that can test their perseverance and consistency in achieving their academic goals. This study aims to examine the academic grit of final-year students working on their theses at the Faculty of Psychology, Riau Islamic University. This study used a descriptive quantitative method with 166 final-year students from the 2020 and 2021 intakes as subjects. The measurement tool used was the Grit-O scale developed by Duckworth & Quinn (2009), which consists of two aspects: consistency of interest and perseverance of effort. The results showed that most students had moderate academic grit (34.9%), while the remainder were in the high and very high categories. No significant differences were found in grit levels based on gender, age, or grade. These findings suggest that academic grit in final-year students is more influenced by internal and psychosocial factors than by demographic factors.
