Abstract

This study aims to evaluate legal protection for users of transportation services through the Maxim application who experience losses in Pekanbaru City based on Article 1 number 1 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, which includes all efforts that guarantee legal certainty to provide protection to consumers. Formulate the problems in this study including What are the forms of legal protection for users of the Maxim application service who experience losses in Pekanbaru City, and What are the obstacles faced in obtaining legal protection for users of the Maxim application service who experience losses in Pekanbaru City. The method applied in this study uses observational or field research by conducting direct surveys to the research location to collect primary and secondary data obtained from respondents either through questionnaires or interviews to be used as data or information as material in writing this research. The results of the study show that in accordance with the principle of consumer safety and security, Law Number 8 of 1999 provides a guarantee of safety and security to consumers in the use, consumption, and utilization of goods and/or services consumed or used. In providing this guarantee, the government has the responsibility for training and supervision in the consumer protection sector. Legal protection for consumers is provided through state intervention to protect consumer rights in the form of laws and regulations. Given the weak bargaining position of consumers, they need to be protected by law. This is because one of the characteristics and objectives of law is to provide protection to the community. Legal protection for the community must be realized in the form of legal certainty which is a right for consumers.
