Abstract

The waters of the Anambas Islands contain various very high and diverse biological potentials, including mangroves. The potential of the mangrove ecosystem makes the Anambas Islands Regency Government need a strategy for its management and development. This study aims to determine and analyze the government's strategy in the management and development of the mangrove ecosystem in the Anambas Islands Regency using a descriptive research method with a qualitative approach. Based on the results of the data analysis, it is known that the management and development of the mangrove ecosystem in the Anambas Islands Regency in terms of the Purpose and Actions indicators are quite good. In contrast, in terms of the Environment, Direction, and Learning indicators it is not optimal. This shows that to realize the goal of optimal management and development of the mangrove ecosystem, it is necessary to integrate it with several important aspects such as improving the quality and capacity of human resources, the availability and condition of supporting infrastructure, the effectiveness of the role of responsible institutions and local governments, the existence of policies/regulations and technical guidelines and their implementation in mangrove management, the availability of adequate budget, and the level of awareness and involvement of local communities. The local government as the main pioneer in the management and development of mangrove ecosystems, has a crucial role in leading, coordinating, and ensuring the success of related programs so that the community in the Anambas Islands Regency can feel the benefits of the management and development of mangrove ecosystems both in terms of empowerment and improving the community's economy as well as environmental comfort.
