Abstract

Increasing the productivity of agricultural products requires technology, namely the use of agricultural tools and machinery. Power Thresher is a useful tool in the process of threshing rice. The use of Power Thresher in farming by farmers is due to differences in technology adoption. Many farmers in Kampar Regency are interested in adopting this tool for reasons such as speeding up the rice threshing process, saving labour and costs in the harvesting process. While farmers who choose traditional methods are due to limited resources and knowledge related to new technology. The objectives of this study were to: (1) determine the characteristics and profile of farming, (2) analyse rice farming by farmers, (3) determine the effect of the use of Power Thresher on production, production costs and income and (4) determine the factors that influence farmers' interest in the use of Power Thresher in Kampar Regency, Riau Province. Statistical analysis used is descriptive statistics to determine the characteristics of farmers and farming profiles and farming analysis. Independent t-test analysis to see the difference in the use of Power Thresher and non Power Thresher. Logistic regression was used to identify variables that are thought to influence farmers' interest in the use of Power Thresher, namely land area, education level, farming experience and income. The results showed that based on the profile and farming, farmers are productive age with the last level of education is elementary school, have a family of 1-2 people and farming experience of 9 years. The size of paddy fields managed by the majority of farmers is less than 1 ha and uses IP two a year. Farming analysis shows that production costs are lower for farmers using Power Thresher, while production and farm income are higher than Non Power Thresher farmers. The efficiency of rice farming using Power Thresher has a higher efficiency (2.83) compared to Non Power Thresher (2.31). This indicates that the use of agricultural machinery is more efficient in producing output compared to the costs incurred. Based on the t test, there is a significant difference in the variables of production and income in farmers using Power Thresher and non Power Thresher. Factors that influence the interest in the use of Power Thresher on farmers in Kampar Regency are the level of education (X3) and the use of labour (X5). The adoption of modern agricultural technology is essential to increase farmers' productivity and income, so efforts are needed to overcome the barriers faced by farmers in the adoption of new technologies.
