Abstract

One of the problems that often in the oil and gas industry is corrosion. The occurrence of corrosion in pipelines for the oil and gas industry will cause a reduction in the quality of iron, collapse of structures, and disrupt the flow of fluid in pipelines causing leaking. To overcome the corrosion can be done using two ways, namely with organic inhibitors and inorganic inhibiotrs. Inorganic inhibitors are toxic, non-biodegradable and not friendly to the environment, therefore organic inhibitors are currently being developed to overcome corrosion problems. In this study the organic inhibitor used was derived from guava leaf extract because guava leaves have tannin compounds which can help slow the reaction between oxygen and iron in forming corrosion. The method used was the maceration method with the addition of ethanol and then tasted using a uv-vis spectrophotometer to identify the percentage of tannin content in guava leaves. To calculate the corrosionrate, it was calculated using the weight loss method with variation in the volume of inhibitor of 3 ml, 6 ml, 9 ml, and 12 ml at various times of 48 hours, 96 hours, and 144 hours to find out the effect of the inhibitor of guava leaf extract inhibitors on corrosion rates and inhibitor efficiency. In the research that has been done, it can be seen that guava leaf extract inhibitors are cloudy on corrosion rate is found at 48 hours of immersion time of 4,41 mm/y an inhibitor efficiency of 31,6%, the lowest corrosion rate at 96 hours of immersion of 2,09 mm/y with an inhibitor efficiency of 56,2%, and the lowest corrosion rate at 144 hours of immersion is 1,68 mm/y with an inhibitor efficiency of 51%.
