Abstract
Drilling mud is one of the things that is very necessary in the drilling process. The design of the mud can affect the effectiveness of the drilling work, costs that will be incurred until the well is in production. A drilling process that can run safely, economically, and quickly is greatly influenced by the rheology of the mud. One of the functions of the drilling mud itself is to overcome lost circulation. Lost circulation is a problem that often occurs in the drilling process. The loss of mud that occurs can be part of the drilling mud and there may even be a total loss of mud that enters the formation when it is circulated. This will cause imperfect circulation of the drilling mud. Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) is a reliable additive to overcome lost circulation. One of the raw materials is sugarcane bagasse. CMC is produced from bagasse through processes such as lignin removal, sample bleaching, cellulose purification, acetic acid monochloride, neutralization, and screening. In this research, garden bagasse will be used as CMC which will be added to drilling mud with a composition of 3 grams, 4 grams and 5 grams to determine its effect on the rheology of drilling mud. In addition, this study will also compare the research results obtained with industrial CMC on a laboratory scale. Based on the tests that have been carried out with the addition of bagasse CMC, the rheology value obtained complies with the drilling fluid specifications based on API Spec 13A (2010) on all samples tested, for the addition of bagasse CMC the plastic viscosity value is 7-10 cp, the yield point value for CMC addition of bagasse was 12-17 lb/100 ft2, gel strength value for CMC bagasse addition was 0.5-0.61 100lb/ft2 and viscosity value for CMC bagasse addition was 49.31-53.27 s/quart.
