Abstract
Polymer flooding is a chemical EOR method that is widely applied in the oil and gas industry because it is easier to apply and also cheaper. One type of biopolymer complex such as starch, dextran, xanthan, chitosan and cellulose. One of the plants that can be used in the manufacture of aloe vera pectin-based biopolymers. Aloe vera has a high pectin content. The stages in this study were sample preparation, extraction and characteristic tests in the form of compatibility, viscosity, thermal stability and FTIR tests. This study used variations in salinity concentrations of 40,000 ppm and 60,000 ppm and at temperatures of 50°C, 60°C and 70°C. In the research results of aloe vera biopolymer and with the addition of the crosslinker did not pass the compatibility test at all concentrations, salinities and temperatures, the viscosity results of the aloe vera biopolymer had the highest viscosity value of 1.35 cP and aloe vera with the addition of the highest viscosity crosslinker of 2.17 cP at concentration of 0.3%, salinity of 40,000 ppm, and at a temperature of 50 C. Aloe vera biopolymer was detected to contain pectin by the appearance of OH, C-H, C-O, and C=O groups in the FTIR test.
