Abstract

In the world of drilling, mud is an important part that usually affects the success of drilling, from the beginning of drilling to the time it reaches the intended depth. Problems will arise in the drilling mud which hinder the drilling process such as removal of imperfect cuttings, loss of circulation in the drilling mud in the formation because the formation has different pressures and temperatures at each depth so that it can change the rheology of the mud when it is injected. . so that the rheology of the mud must be paid attention to in order to overcome the problems that will occur in the drilling mud by planning the shape of the physical properties of the drilling mud. One way to design the physical properties of the drilling mud to meet the needs is by adding addictive materials to the drilling mud. In this study, sago flour was used as an additive in the drilling mud mixture. The purpose in writing this final project is to determine the effect of changing the mud from sago flour material in changing the physical properties of the drilling mud so that it is able to overcome the problems that occur in the drilling mud. Tests carried out using a low solid mud system with a comparison of industry standard mud and mud that has been mixed with sago flour will then show changes in values on the rheological properties of the mud such as density, plastic viscosity, yield point, gel strength, mud cake, and filtration loss. with values according to API specifications at the addition of concentrations of 2 gr, 4 gr, 6 gr, 8 gr sago flour. Changes that occur in the sample will be tested against several temperature variants starting from the standard room temperature, 60?C, 90?C, 110?C. and get results where standard mud decreases when exposed to high temperatures, while sago flour mud is able to maintain the physical properties of the fluid even at high temperatures
