Abstract

Emulsion problems often occur during the petroleum production process which will later cause problems such as the occurrence of scale on the flowline, production and gathering station and corrosion in the pipeline so that special handling must be given. The purpose of this study was to examine the potential of nano graphene oxide as a demulsifier. Nano graphene oxide will be synthesized using the Liquid Phase Exfoliation (LPE) method made from graphite and the graphene oxide will be subjected to FTIR and UV-Vis tests. FTIR characterization shows the successful formation of graphene oxide in the presence of C-H, C=C, and O-H bonds. The UV-Vis characterization one absorbance peak ?=235 nm, the absorbance peak was in the region (UV) 200-400 nm. GO testing was carried out using the bootle test method with variations in GO doses and looking at GO's ability to reduce oil and grease content, turbidity, pH, salinity, TDS and surface tension. For volume separation of oil, the separation of oil at a dose of 10 ppm obtained 1.5 ml, a dose of 30 ppm was 2.2 ml, a dose of 50 ppm was 2.5 ml, a dose of 70 ppm was 3.1 ml and a dose of 90 ppm was 3.5 ml. The greatest separation results were obtained at a dose of 90 ppm with 3.5 ml of oil separation for 1 hour. GO is also to reduce oil and grease content, turbidity, pH, salinity and TDS and the greater the decrease with increasing doses given. Maximum results were obtained at a dose of 90 ppm.
