Abstract
The EOR method is implemented when secondary recovery is no longer effective. The EOR method is very effective in Indonesia's oil wells because it can increase up to 70% of OOIP compared to secondary recovery which is only around 25 - 40%. In the EOR method generally using surfactants, the surfactants used are usually anionic types produced using chemicals. If this continues, it will result in environmental pollution. Therefore, it is necessary to develop surfactants that are environmentally friendly and easily available in Indonesia. In this study, an anionic surfactant with the type of Methyl Ester Sulfonate (MES) is used which can be made from used sweet orange essential oil materials that are easy to find and easy to decompose. This is the reason for choosing used sweet orange essential oil as an ingredient in the manufacture of MES surfactants. ). The test results of the used sweet orange essential oil MES functional group using FTIR showed that the synthesis process was successful, seen from the presence of methyl ester sulfonate groups contained in the used sweet orange essential oil MES.
