Abstract

When using a Hydraulic Pump Unit (HPU) in an oil well, it is often encountered a problem where there is a mismatch between the theoretically desired production rate and the actual production rate. This is often caused by the low volumetric efficiency of the pump. This issue arises when the actual production rate from the well is much lower than the theoretically expected production rate. To overcome this condition, an artificial lift method is used, namely the Hydraulic Pump Unit (HPU). The evaluation of volumetric efficiency aims to monitor and control well production in the field with the goal of identifying the causes of production decline. Pressure drop and other issues that occur in the well can result in a decrease in the production rate. Therefore, changes in pump conditions are necessary to improve the production rate. The volumetric efficiency (Ev) value provides an overview of the success rate of installing a pump. From the calculations conducted on Well X, the recorded production rate (Q) was 44.9 BFPD, with a Stroke Length (S) of 64 inches and a Stroke Per Minute (N) of 4 SPM, and the volumetric efficiency (Ev) was 29.94%. After optimization, the stroke length (S) was increased to 78 inches, pump speed (N) to 5.8 SPM, and the pump displacement reached 265. These changes had a positive impact on the well's production rate (Q), which increased to 163 BFPD. Additionally, the pump's volumetric efficiency (Ev) also increased to 61.5%. Overall, the volumetric efficiency of the pump experienced an increase of 31.56%.
